Description
The book investigates financial fragility among urban middle‑class households in Guwahati, Assam, focusing on saving behaviour, investment patterns, and responses to financial stress. Using a descriptive and analytical design, the authors collected data from 400 households across four city zones through structured questionnaires. Analysis identified three internally consistent dimensions of financial behaviour—saving and investment behaviour, financial discipline, and financial stress awareness—and segmented households into distinct behavioural profiles, such as resilient planners, vulnerable undisciplined households, and cautious savers lacking long‑term planning. Findings show that financial stress is more prevalent among lower‑income groups, while middle‑income segments exhibit mixed investment behaviours. The study highlights the complexity and diversity of financial fragility, underscoring the need for targeted financial literacy interventions, tailored financial products, and inclusive policy measures to enhance household resilience and support broader economic development in Assam.
